The second oil. I decided to look at something a little more classical. This is 18 x 24 on student canvas board. The original was by Diego Velazquez The Venus in the Mirror. This time I tried to build the paint up a little more, layering it like I do with watercolor. Beginning with an underpainting of burnt umber and thinned with with Turpenoid, I built it up in layers. Once again I think my rendition pretty much sucks. Although I do think it's better than my first attempt. I got to the point where I needed to finish the face on the cherub and realized that I had no idea how to complete detail with oil?
