Captian America Dead at 66

I walked into my comic store today and the guy that the works there gave me the comics they put aside for me each week. Yeah, that's right I'm an uber-geek and they sent aside comics for me. What of it? Oh, piss off.

On the top of the stack was Captain America number 25. He said, "That comic is already up to thirty bucks."

I said, "Why? It just came out today."

"Something happens in it...", he replied ominously.

"Oh yeah, I heard he got shot or something."

I went home and read it. Captain America was shot through the neck and is apparently dead.

It was sad. Comics used to be fun and entertaining. It made me wonder what the world has come to?

In Detective Comics this month a terrorist was detonating bombs at the Wayne Industries building. While Bruce is stuck in the building and protecting his secret identity. (He's The Batman you know) No worries though, Robin is on the case. You see, Bruce Wayne adopted Tim Drake (his third protegé to wear the Robin costume -Dick Grayson went on to become Nightwing and Jason Todd was pulped to death with a tire iron by The Joker -but he came back too) after Captain Boomerang murdered his father last year.

A few months ago Superboy died. A clone of Superman from when Superman "died" a few years ago. Superby was Robin's best friend and Wonder Girl's love interest.

Last year Wonder Woman (sent to man's world to teach us peace and understanding) killed a villain by snapping his neck with her golden lasso.

Look, I'm sure the world wasn't as innocent as the comics I read in my youth would have had me believe -but I do miss the refuge of imagined innocence.

I'm sure Cap will be okay and live to fight more neo-natzis and what-have-you. It gave me pause though. The world seems so angry and upset. With good reason I suppose. I'm pissed. A lot of the people I know are as well. I wonder when it's all going to come to big nasty head, and there are no more people willing to stand up for what is right and true?
